2 Day Rhino & Shoebill Safari- Budget Accommodation

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Activity Description

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary offers a secure place where rhino populations can be expanded by breeding and protected from human and non-human predators. The aim is to re-introduce these majestic creatures into Uganda’s national parks, whilst at the same time allowing the public to enjoy the chance to trek and observe white rhinos in close vicinity. The sanctuary also provides a safe haven for a healthy population of smaller game species and an abundance of wetland birdlife, including the rare and elusive shoebill stork.

This 2 day trip will allow you an afternoon walk in the bush, tracking and observing Uganda’s only White Rhino population, as well as the opportunity to experience the wetland wildlife on an early morning canoe safari experience.

Day 1 Travel to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, afternoon white rhino trekking
09.00 Please be at the Red Chilli reception by 9am at the latest. Depart in a customised pop-top safari minibus with driver/guide (max 8 passengers per trip).

12:00 Arrive at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary around midday. Check into your accommodation and enjoy a leisurely lunch.

14:00 At around 2pm you will set off for your rhino tracking with an experienced ranger. The total tracking time will vary according to where the rhinos are currently situated within the sanctuary but you will be able to enjoy an hour in the close vicinity of the rhinos once found. After you have finished tracking you will return to your accommodation, where dinner will be served.

Day 2 Canoe trip to observe Shoebill Stork
06:00 One of the most sought after birds in Uganda is the Shoebill Stork and the sanctuary affords a rare opportunity to observe these prehistoric looking birds which nest within their wetland. Water birds are plentiful and this early morning canoe safari is a must for anyone who loves nature or is interested in birding. Your canoe trip should take between 3 to 4 hours.

12.00 Enjoy an early lunch before returning to Kampala. You should be back in Kampala by 16:00, depending on traffic conditions on the day.
