Queen Elizabeth National Park is Uganda’s most popular tourist destination, offering breathtaking scenery and an abundance of wildlife. The park is home to more than 600 bird and 95 mammal species, including lion, elephant, hippo, leopard, buffalo, hyena, warthog and various antelope. This popular Red Chilli tour is perfect for those with limited time or budget, without compromising on quality game and primate viewing in stunning surroundings.
Day 1 Depart Kampala, Salt Lake tour
6:30 Please be at the Red Chilli reception by 6.30am at the latest. Depart at 6.45am in a customised pop-top safari minibus with driver/guide (max 8 passengers per vehicle).
8:45 Take advantage of the opportunity to have your photo taken at the Equator! A short snack/coffee/bathroom break.
13:45 Arrive at Katwe where you may eat your packed lunch if you have not enjoyed it en route! (Please bring your own packed lunch or order from Red Chilli when booking your trip.) Depart for a tour of the working salt-lake mine. When in season you may also view the spectacular flocks of flamingos at the nearby by bird sanctuary lake (typically viewed from October-March).
18:00 Arrive at Bush Lodge for the night. Accommodation provided consists of safari tents with twin/double beds, including bedding and shared bathroom facilities. Upgrades to en suite bandas are available on request (please enquire for pricing/availability). Enjoy dinner and drinks around the camp fire.
Day 2 Full Day Exploring Queen Elizabeth National Park
6:30 Early morning breakfast at Bush Lodge.
7:00 Depart for the Kasenyi sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park for a morning game drive. The Kasenyi savannah offers a classic safari experience, with a good chance of spotting lions, which are drawn by the huge herds of Uganda Kob. You will also have the opportunity to spot elephant, warthog, waterbuck and possibly even the elusive leopard.
12:00 Take a break at the Queen’s Pavillion Visitor Information Centre for a packed lunch whilst enjoying the panoramic view of the park and surrounding area.
13:00 Set off on the 27km long Crater Explosion Drive, evidence of the Albertine rift’s volcanic past. The drive affords stunning views of the enormous craters, the Rift Valley Escarpment and the Kazinga Channel, set against the stunning backdrop of the Rwenzori Mountains.
15:00 Finish the Crater drive at the Kazinga Channel, where you will join the 2 hour launch cruise. From the boat you may see buffalo, elephants, monitor lizards and vast numbers of different bird species as well as numerous hippos and crocodiles in the water.
18:00 Arrive back at Bush Lodge for a second night.
Day 3 Morning Game Drive, Return to Kampala
6:30 Early morning breakfast at Bush Lodge.
7:00 Depart for one last chance to spot some wildlife in Queen Elizabeth National Park during a 3-hour game drive.
10:00 Return to Kampala via Fort Portal, where you will stop for lunch at a local restaurant (to be arranged with your guide).
18:00 Arrive back at Red Chilli, Kampala, depending on traffic and weather conditions.
